SATA, eli SäRes Analysing and Testing Area on Sääksmäen reserviläiset ry:n toimeenpanema konsepti, jolla tarjotaan oppilaitoksille ja yrityksille sekä yhteisöille ja vapaaehtoisille mahdollisuuksia tuotteiden kenttätestaustoimintaan. SATA tuo edellä mainittuja tahoja yhteen ja muodostaa innovointi- ja koulutusekosysteemin.
SATA, or SäRes Analysing and Testing Area, is a concept implemented by the Sääksmäki Reservists Association, which offers educational institutions and companies, as well as communities and volunteers, opportunities for field testing of products. SATA brings the above-mentioned parties together and forms an innovation and training ecosystem.
SATA osallistui Drone Innovation Hackathoniin 21-23.1.2026 Nokia Arenalla. Tapahtuma osoittautui erittäin merkitykselliseksi jo pelkästään verkostoitumisen näkökulmasta. Alueemme toiminta sai runsaasti huomiota ja kokreettisia sopimuksia laadittiin kolmen päivän aikana useita.
SATA participated in the Drone Innovation Hackathon on January 21-23, 2026 at Nokia Arena. The event proved to be very significant from a networking perspective alone. Our region's activities received a lot of attention and several concrete agreements were drawn up over the three days. HACKATHON VALMISTELUT
SATA-toiminnan käynnistämisen myötä tunnistettiin tarve osallistua alan tapahtumiin, joista ensimmäisenä edessä oli tämä Hackathon. Tapahtumaan ilmoittauduttiin varsin suurella kiireellä, lähinnä verkostoitumisen näkökulmasta. Keskustelimme myös ilmailutoimikunnan kanssa teknisiin haasteisiin osallistumisesta, mutta tällöin aika oli meitä vastaan. Varsinaista teknistä ratkaisua ei oltaisi ehditty kehittämään. Päädyttiin osallistuman vain haaste 1:een joka liittyi yhteistoiminnan kehittämiseen Nokia Arenan kanssa.
With the launch of SATA activities, the need to participate in industry events was recognized, the first of which was this Hackathon. Registration for the event was quite a rush, mainly from a networking perspective. We also discussed participating in technical challenges with the aviation committee, but time was against us. There would have been no time to develop an actual technical solution. We ended up participating only in challenge 1, which was related to developing cooperation with Nokia Arena.Kuitenkin, aivan viime metreillä saimme pyynnön Team 16:a lentolaitteella tukemisesta. Ilmailutoimikunta ryhtyi reippaasti yritykseen ja kokosi kolmesta eri droonista kolmessa päivässä vaatimukset täyttävän lentolaitteen toiselle tiimille. Pientä epäilystä aikataulu ensin herätti, mutta Mikan motivointi “Apollo 13 saatiin kuusta takaisin, kyllä te yhden droonin ilmaan saatte”, herätti ilmailutoimikunnan liekkeihin. Toimiva lentolaite ohjelmistoineen ja erityisine kokoonpanoineen toimitettiin Team 16:sta ajoissa.
However, in the very last meters we received a request to support Team 16 with an aircraft. The Aviation Committee quickly set about the task and assembled an aircraft that met the requirements for the other team from three different drones in three days. The schedule initially raised some doubts, but Mika's motto "Apollo 13 was brought back from the moon, you can get one drone in the air", roused the Aviation Committee to fire. A functional aircraft with its software and special configuration was delivered from Team 16 on time.Sofian, Mikan, Rikun ja Joonaksen muodostama Team 4 lähti avaustilaisuuteen 21.1.2026 avoimin mielin, lähinnä oppimaan uutta ja osallistumaan tähän hienoon tapahtumaan. Ensimmäiset käyntikortit ja paperiset lentolehtiset saatiin päivää ennen tapahtumaa painosta. Olimme muuten ainoa joka jakoi lentolehtistä – vanhanaikaista, mutta tehokasta.
Team 4, consisting of Sofia, Mika, Riku and Joonas, went to the opening ceremony on January 21, 2026 with open minds, mainly to learn new things and participate in this great event. The first business cards and paper flyers were received from the printer the day before the event. Incidentally, we were the only ones handing out flyers - old-fashioned, but effective.

VARSINAINEN HACKATHON
SATA-Team 4 perusti leirinsä Platform 6 rakennuksen viidenteen kerrokseen, jossa pääosin oleilimme.
SATA-Team 4 set up camp on the fifth floor of the Platform 6 building, where we mainly stayed.
Pääosa ajasta meni verkostoitumiseen, jossa painopisteen olessakin, meinasimme unohtaa koko kilpailuasetelman. Ultrahackin Juhani Kivikangas ystävällisesti meitä keskiviikon päätteeksi muistutti myös kilpailuesityksen tekemisestä, jolloin tartuimme toimeen saamiemme havaintojen pohjalta. Keskiviikkona myös vierailimme tutustumassa Nokia Arenan järjestelyihin Sofian kanssa. Arena on kyllä vaikuttava paikka tällaisten tapahtumien järjestämiseen, mistä saimme kimmokkeen omalle esityksellemme.
Most of the time was spent networking, where even though we were the focus, we almost forgot about the entire competition setup. At the end of Wednesday, Ultrahack's Juhani Kivikangas kindly reminded us about making a competition presentation, so we took action based on the observations we had made. On Wednesday, we also visited the Nokia Arena to get to know the arrangements with Sofia. The Arena is indeed an impressive place for organizing such events, which gave us the impetus for our own presentation.
Torstai vietettiin lähinnä Nokia Arenalla Mikan ja Joonaksen voimin. Aika kului enimmäkseen verkostoitumisessa ja erilaisia SATA-konseptiin tutustujia riitti välillä jonoksi saakka. Varsinaisen kilpailutehtävän laatiminen jäi hyvin viime tinkaan ja valmistui vasta puolenyön jälkeen perjantaina.
Thursday was spent mostly at Nokia Arena with Mika and Joonas. The time was mostly spent networking and there were enough people getting to know the SATA concept to form a queue at times. The actual competition task was left to the very last minute and was only completed after midnight on Friday.Tostaina myös tukemamme Team 16 teki lentonsa. Valitettavasti kovasta työmme huolimatta, videoyhteyden toimimattomuuden takia ja joukkue ei kyennyt lentämään, vaikka kaikki toimi juuri ennen kisaa tehdyssä testissä. Molemman joukot saivat kuitenkin hyvää oppia tällaiseen tapahtumaan osallistumisesta.
On Tuesday, our supported Team 16 also made their flight. Unfortunately, despite our hard work, due to the video connection not working, the team was unable to fly, even though everything worked in the test conducted just before the race. However, both teams learned a good lesson from participating in such an event.
Päätöspäivänä Mika ja Sofia pääsivät ensimmäisenä esiintymään ja tiukan kolmen minuutin aikana esittelimme konseptimme; uusi tapahtuma Nokia Arenalla, joka on suunnattu perinteikkään “assemby”-tapahtuman hengessä nuorille osajille droonitoiminnan ja robotiikan alalta. Perustelimme esitystä sillä todellisuudella, että 90-luvun assemblyn aikan verrattuna, meillä on nykyisin saman verran drooneja kuin tuolloin oli tietokoneita.
On the final day, Mika and Sofia were the first to perform and in just three minutes we presented our concept; a new event at Nokia Arena, aimed at young experts in the field of drone operations and robotics in the spirit of the traditional "assemby" event. We justified the presentation with the reality that compared to the assembly days of the 90s, we now have as many drones as there were computers back then.
Varsin luottavaisena odottelimme lopputuloksia, sillä tiesimme ideamme olevan hyvä ja käynnistävän mahdollisesti hienoa toimintaa tulevaisuudessa. Silti toki jännitimme lopputulosta, joka oli kuin olikin voitto tässä kategoriassa. Tapahtumasta jäi hyvä fiilis ja pieni palkintorahakin lämmitti mieltä. Ei paha suoritus muutamalta vapaaehtoiselta.
We were quite confident waiting for the results, because we knew our idea was good and would potentially launch great activities in the future. Still, we were excited about the end result, which was a victory in this category. The event left us with a good feeling and the small prize money warmed our hearts. Not a bad performance from a few volunteers.

TULEVAISUUS
SATA tulee nyt ajamaan Hakathonissa esitettyä ideaa eteenpäin. Toivottavasti saamme esittämäämme hanketukea päätoimisen hankepäällikön palkkaamiseksi jotta pääsisimme asiaa ajamaan ammattimaisemmin eteenpäin. Olemme jo olleet yhteydessä ensimmäisiin järjestäjäkumppaneihin ja ensimmäinen suunnittelukokous on valmisteilla. Aloitamme strategian laatimisella ja keskusteluilla Nokia Arenan kanssa.
SATA will now drive the idea presented at the Hakathon forward. Hopefully, we will receive the project support we have requested to hire a full-time project manager so that we can move the matter forward in a more professional manner. We have already been in contact with the first organizing partners and the first planning meeting is in preparation. We will start by developing a strategy and having discussions with Nokia Arena.
